(CCDP)

Overview of Requirements


The CCDP (IC&RC reciprocal) is a new credential being offered in the state of Michigan.

 

Experience - 6,000 hours (3 years) full- or part-time experience within the last ten years {two- (2) years working specifically with COD clients and one (1) year of AOD counseling work.}

To meet the experience standard, the applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in co-occurring disorder (COD) or behavioral science with a clinical application and document 6,000 hours (3 years) of full- or part-time experience within the last ten years; {4,000 hours (2 years) must be with COD clients and 2,000 hours (1 year) must be in counseling at a MDCH licensed program.} The experience must be in the IC&RC/CCDP Performance Domains. No volunteer work will be accepted.


Education – A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in behavioral science with a clinical application from an institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. 200 total contact hours required; 140 hours must be COD specific training that includes a focus on both substance abuse and mental disorders and considers the interactive relationship between the disorders. At least 30 hours must be specific to substance abuse, 30 hours specific to mental health and six (6) hours specific to counseling/professional ethics.

Education is defined as formal classroom education (workshops, seminars, institutes, in-services, and college/university courses) and home study courses (internet, correspondence, teleconference). One clock hour of education is equal to (50) minutes of continuous instruction. Education must be specific to the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the tasks within each IC&RC/CCDP Performance Domains. All education must be MCBAP approved and documented. Applicants are responsible for securing and submitting documentation of attendance, the number of contact hours, dates, and a content description.


Supervised Practical Training - 200 hours of direct supervision, with at least twenty (20) hours in each of the IC&RC/CCDP Performance Domains.

Training is defined as a formal, systematic process that focuses on skill development and integration of knowledge. This training must take place in a setting where COD counseling is being provided. This training must occur as part of an eligible work experience and may be completed under more than one supervisor.


Testing – IC&RC Written Co-Occurring Disorders Professional Examination.

Applicants are required to pass the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium/Co-Occurring Disorders Professional (IC&RC/COD) written examination as part of their CCDP requirement. There are no prerequisites to take the exam. A passing score is based upon the total score. If you fail the exam, you must retake the entire exam.


Code of Ethics – Sign and adhere to the current CCDP Code of Ethical Standards.


Residency - Must live or work within the State of Michigan fifty-one (51%) percent of the time.


Fee - Submit $150.00 non-refundable two-year certification fee (online application manual included.)


Renewal – Forty- (40) hours of MCBAP approved continuing education training specific to COD is required for a two (2) year certification and twenty- (20) hours of MCBAP approved continuing education training specific to COD is required for a one (1) year certification, since the beginning of your previous certification period.

Renewal fee - $135 for a two-year renewal                      $85 for a one-year renewal

NOTE: there will be a $25 renewal fee for each additional credential for those individuals who hold more than one MCBAP certification.
