Overview of Requirements

 

Applicants must currently hold the Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC-M, CAC-R), the Certified Advanced Addiction Counselor (CAAC), or the Certified Justice Professional (CCJP) credential or hold a specialty substance abuse credential in another professional discipline in the human services field at the master’s level or higher to be eligible to apply for the Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS-M).  

Experience

    

  •    No Degree

  •       10 years (20,000 hours) clinical supervisory experience in the AODA field (including a minimum of 200 hours providing direct clinical supervision)

  •       Five years (10,000 hours) counseling experience as an AODA Counselor; these five (5) years may be included in the ten (10) years of clinical supervisory experience

  • Bachelors Degree*

  • Five years (10,000 hours) clinical supervisory experience in the AODA field (including a minimum of 200 hours of direct clinical supervision)

  • Two years (4,000 hours) counseling experience as an AODA Counselor; these two (2) years may be included in the five (5) years of clinical supervisory experience.

OR

  • Masters Degree*

  • Three years (6,000 hours) clinical supervisory experience in the AODA field. (including a minimum of 200 hours of direct clinical supervision)

  • One year (2,000 hours) counseling experience as an AODA Counselor; this one (1) year may be included in the three (3) years of clinical supervisory experience.

*Degree must be in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy with a clinical application from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

Experience is defined as full- or part-time experience counseling AODA clients and supervising AODA counselors at a MDCIS/ODCP licensed program. The experience may be as a paid or volunteer employee and must be in the IC&RC/AODA Performance Domains and the Twelve Core Counseling Functions.

Education

  • 30 contact hours in clinical supervision (with a minimum of 6 hours specific to Ethics and a minimum of 6 hours in each of the following Performance Domains)

3. Counselor Development

2. Management and Administration 4. Professional Responsibilities


Education is defined as formal classroom education (workshops, seminars, institutes, in-services, and college/university work) or home study courses (internet, correspondence, teleconferences).  

Education must be specific or related to the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the tasks within each IC&RC/AODA Performance Domain.
All education must be documented and from a MCBAP approved source.

 Fee

  • Submit completed application with a $150.00 two-year initial application fee

 
Renewal
 

  • Six (6) contact hours of MCBAP approved continuing education specific to the IC&RC Clinical Supervision Performance Domains


Renewal fee

  • $25.00 two (2) year renewal fee
